ROAD SAFETY BEGINS WITH ME

Road accidents globally are increasing at an alarming trend becoming one of the leading causes of death and disability, with more than 1.3 million deaths and 50 million injuries per year currently. India tops the charts in road accidents and deaths in the world. Most affected by this hazard are youth and people from low income groups. At the Transport and Travel Wing (TTW), we believe that human values, right awareness and a positive attitude are as important for ensuring Road Safety as the quality of infrastructure, vehicles and traffic systems.

TTW engages with diverse stakeholders to drive home the message that each of us must play our role well for better Road Safety - whether we are drivers, operators, passengers, traffic police, road users, road developers or vehicle manufacturers... We all belong to the system and change begins from ‘me’.

NEW PROJECT ON ROAD SAFETY

Road Safety Project for Decade of Action

The TTW is initiating a new project for enhancing road safety. This coincides with the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 declared by the United Nations. The Overall Aim of this project is to reduce the incidence of road accidents by inspiring and educating individuals to practice road safe behavior.

The project focuses on road users but also has a multi-stakeholder approach considering that enhancing road safety would be possible only when one reaches diverse stakeholders like transport and traffic personnel, other road users especially children and youth, infrastructure developers, automobile companies, traffic authorities and legislators. Activities have been designed to promote a sense of self-esteem and self - responsibility contributing to behaviour transformation vis-a-vis each of these groups.
